Chronic Inflammation

The histomorphologic picture of chronic apical periodontitis generally shows an ill-defined area of inflamed fibrous connective tissue that, in some areas, may contain vascular granulation tissue. This slide illustrates the root apex at one end adjacent to intense chronic inflammation. It consists of a mixture of plasma cells, histiocytes and lymphocytes.
